It
is well-known that Kamal Haasan puts in a lot of effort for the films
that he is associated with. For the upcoming Uttama Villain, the actor,
who is also its writer, apparently bought musical instruments from
Malaysia.
Says the film's composer Ghibran, "There is a mythical segment in the film, and we are recording with some ancient instruments for this. We have used some Malay instruments for a song. Kamal sir actually bought three-four instruments on his own from Bali, Indonesia. They might or might not have been in use in Tamil Nadu in those days but we are taking creative liberties here because these instruments sound both Indian and exotic."
Music, the composer says, plays a crucial role in the film. "We are mixing traditional tunes with orchestral symphony backgrounds and fusing them with villupattu and theyyam. In fact, veteran villupattu artist Subbu Arumugam sir was involved with the sound design of one song. He has played for the song with his troupe as well. We have also recorded with theyyam artists from Kerala," he reveals and adds that Kamal has sung in three of the songs and might sing in a few more.
