'Kaththi', starring Vijay and directed by A.R. Murugadoss that faced the wrath of Tamil national groups has found favour with the CPI (M) and its organisations.  Tamil national groups opposed the film on the ground that the producers, Lyca Productions, had links with relatives of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa. The film’s launch witnessed protests across the State. There was also a dispute over the ownership of story of the film. However, the film went to garner rave reviews.
