More than one and a half years after
its theatrical release in India, her English Vinglish continues to make
waves internationally. The film is being dubbed in Japanese and is will
release on month end in the island nation.
Interestingly, a
hotelier in Japan has named one of his special meals as ‘Sashi Meals’,
after her character name in the film. It includes ladoos, the sweet,
which she excelled in making in English Vinglish. The makers of
the film arranged a premiere of the film recently for Akie Abe,wife of
Japanese Prime Minister and Deepa Gopalan, the Indian Ambassador in
Japan. Reportedly, the two ladies were moved by Sridevi’s performance.
When
the movie ended, the First Lady of Japan was reported to have moist
eyes. It is heard that even the Indian ambassador was overjoyed after
watching the film. English Vinglish’s success in India and overseas was
because it struck an emotional chord with the female diaspora. And
to go along with the present trend of Bollywood stars going out of
their ways to promote films with unique ideas, Sri was seen clad in the
traditional Japanese kimono. The interesting part is that she also roped
in her two daughters Jahnavi and Kushi who were also promoting the
film along with their mom.
She has also posted the picture on her micro blogging site and wrote ‘Me with my two dolls’.
