Latha Rajinikanth, SIings for KOCHADAIIYAAN

Rajinikanth has sung a song in his upcoming film Kochadaiiyaan, which has music by AR Rahman. But what’s not common knowledge is that the actor’s wife, Latha Rajinikanth, has also crooned a number — titled Manappenin Sathiyam — in the film. 

Director Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin says, “My mother is a very talented singer and this song has come out great. Without any practise, she’s done an amazing job. Singing is her passion and I hope she does it more often. The lyrics are very emotional and I can’t wait for people to hear it. It was a challenge for her, for sure, as she has sung this song in Telugu too.” Latha was a playback singer in the 80s, having sung in films like Tik Tik Tik and Anbulla Rajinikanth, apart from working on an album. So, how did Rajini respond on hearing this particular song? “He loved it,” she says. 

    The Rajinikanth family has had a tryst with singing for a long time now. While the actor has sung in the past and recorded for Kochadaiiyaan, his elder daughter Aishwaryaa — now a director — had sung Aayirathil Oruvan. Her husband, and Rajini’s son-in-law, actor Dhanush, is a regular singer in films these days after crooning the popular Kolaveri.
