Son of seasoned actor Nasser, Luthfudeen Basha, is making his acting debut with director Vijay’s Saivam. Interestingly, he will be seen playing his father’s grandson on screen.
An excited Vijay tells us, “It was the most interesting part of shooting the film. Basha used to tell me he was scared of acting in front of his fathet. But, acting is in his genes, and he has done fabulous work in the film. He plays a Chennai-bred youngster who comes to a village to spend time with his grandfather and extended family.”
So, how did he rope in Basha for the film?
The director says, “I was auditioning for the role of an 18-year-old and actor Shanmugasundaram sir was bringing in a lot of fresh talents for the audition. One day, he told me that he has a young boy in mind for the role and I must take a look at him. When I walked in, I saw Basha sitting and he reminded me of Nasser sir in his Nayagan days. I auditioned him and only after I had roped in him did I tell Nasser sir and Kameela ma’am (Nasser’s wife).”
Vijay tells us that both were initially shocked. He adds, “Basha is a musician and he had learnt music from an internationally reputed college. So, they were wondering when the acting bug had bitten him. Kameela ma’am later told me that she wants Basha to be an artist more than a hero. He is talented enough to make his parents’ dream come true.”
