When Jackie Chan’s latest film from the cult Police Story franchise
releases in Tamil Nadu next month, you may just get a chance to see the
action star sing in Tamil.
The 59-year-old Shanghai Noon actor is
already earning praise for his skill and dexterity in having crafted
Police Story 2013 - the sixth film that followed his 1985 blockbuster
Police Story. One of the biggest factors that raised interest levels for
the film were a video of Jackie Chan singing one of the tracks that
appear in the film.
With a considerable amount of people still
watching Jackie Chan films, both in English and the Tamil dubbed
version, across Tamil Nadu— it comes as little surprise that Police
Story 2013 is slated to release on a whopping 100+ screens this Pongal.
Though the distributor has maintained that the film will release on over
200 screens, City Express has learnt that there will be at least half
that number of theatres playing the film in English and Tamil.
As
many screens as possible will be screening the film in 3D as well, “This
was one of the first times that Jackie Chan has sung a song for a film
and that has become a big rage on Youtube. After dubbing, this will
become very popular in Tamil Nadu as well,” said a note from the
distributors, Surabhi Films.
The film will have to jostle for
screen space in all centres as Pongal 2014 is slated to have big-ticket
releases like Ajith’s Veeram and Vijay and Mohanlal’s Jilla.
